Post-Quassy

My apologies.  I really thought I'd be more on top of the report this time around.  Turns out I wasn't.  Trust me, it's in the works, but it might be this weekend before I get it done.

In the mean time, let me hit the major points
  • It was HOT!
  • I got dehydrated (had a headache for about 36 hours post-race).
  • The run fell apart
  • I have a new 70.3 PR
  • I had THE BEST cheering section of the entire race!
  • I didn't have a single calf issue!!

The last one there is the biggie.  Now that I've finished Quassy without any effect from my injury, I can look to the rest of my season with a little more optimism.

HITS North Country 70.3 in 4 weeks
Ironman Lake Placid in 8 weeks

And now with recovery in full swing, I'm relearning that sitting around resting is not the best option.  I started a new class today and participated with complete reservation about how my body would handle it.  Turns out, I felt MUCH better after class!

Questions
1.  What's the hottest race you've done?  How do you deal with the heat on race day?

2.  What's your next race coming up?
HITS North Country will be a test race.  I'm going to try some things out and see how they work.  It was only $75 bucks, so I don't feel bad if things don't work out.

Dream.  Believe.  Achieve.

it's all about pace said...

the ground temperature at RAYS last hear was 139... the high air temp was 109...

but that's ultrarunning and a different beast...

I've done a 1/2 in 95 degree heat... the only thing I know to do is slow down and try to keep your HR under control.
