An Interesting Feet of Nature

A Law of Physics
Apply pressure to an object and it will adapt.

Ok, I never actually heard that as part of my physics lectures, but it's got to be true all the same.  Anyways, I went to the LBS today to return a new pair of cycling shoes I bought because they ended up being too narrow.  I've always had wider feet, so it didn't surprise me.  I went in and we pulled out a couple other pairs to see if any would fit better.  As I took my shoes and socks off, the shop owner said...

"Ah, you've been running too much."

It was obviously a joke since he's a swimmer & marathoner himself, but he was quick to point out that I've grown bunyons on the outside of both my feet.  I had been questioning whether I had or not for a time, so I went back to find some older pictures of my lower appendages.

Other than my incredibly white shins and My God my feet are veiny, my most lateral metatarsal has made a move causing my pinky toe to bend in.  I guess that's what I get for becoming a runner.

Questions
1.  Have you noticed changes in your body since you started or altered your training?

2.  I've never had any problems with my feet other than the issue of wide shoes, but is there anything I should know about bunyons?

Holy shit batman!
You have become a duck!
I can't believe those are the same feet.
Top right foot looks like you are coming off a broken foot!
Bottom looks like a road compressor rode over them.
Good news is with those bottom feet you should be able to crank out a 45 minute IM swim as long as you kick..

Haa!! I only laugh because I don't think I have a pics of my feet from year to year. But this is an interesting point. I think I've developed callouses over the years where I use to get bloody blisters but that's about it. I have the opposite problem, narrow feet.

Bunions are normally causes by pressure, and if you have wide feet, it's probably just having shoes that are too narrow. (Tend be be called bunions with big toe, and bunionettes with outside of foot.) Also, our feet tend to flatten/grow wider as we age so you may see changes whether you run or not. Bunions don't really exist where cultures don't wear shoes, so I really doubt it's your running causing it.

Who has pictures of their feet?? Anyway, I have wide, totally flat feet so I feel your pain. I've definitely noticed my feet change over the last few years due to running/and well maybe heel wearing too.
